Leola Baldwin Jones, 1920-1998
Leola Baldwin Jones was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 9, 1920.
This picture was taken around 1940
with the Wasatch mountain range in the background. She and my father, Nephi R. Hacken, were married in 1942.
Leola's father. Family legend has it that a banker who didn't know his name once asked him to "put his John Henry" on a check and then got angry when he started to sign "John... Henry..." He had a wicked good sense of humor, though you can't see it from this sober photo.
Leola's mother (and therefore our grandmother). It's too bad that the only pictures we have are mainly from when she and John Henry were older.
This is Leola with her second child, Richard Douglas Hacken (me) in 1945.
Two seemingly macho little boys (Bob and Dick) with their mother after a pheasant hunt in 1949. Bobby has a cap gun to protect us. In the background is the partially finished house at 2700 Northrop Avenue.
One of the rare larger Jones reunions was held in Liberty Park (Salt Lake City) in 1959. Leola had only one sister, Cleone, who married Ferral Ogilvie. Back row (left to right): Bob Hacken, Ferral Ogilvie, Cleone Jones Ogilvie, John Henry Jones, Dick Hacken, Winnie Baldwin Jones. Front row (left to right): Janet Ogilvie, Blaine Ogilvie, Gary Ogilvie, Linda Ogilvie, Joan Hacken, Sue Hacken, Yvonne Ogilvie, Carolyn Hacken in arms of Leola Jones Hacken.
She passed away in Sacramento, California, in 1998.
