The Prince of Peace
Lyrics by Richard Hacken
(To be sung to the tune of the Swedish folk song, Av längtan till dig)

For so long I allowed a strong pride to divide my soul:
All my fond planning, all my worldly dreaming
Was nothing but scheming:
Just conspiring to have more acquiring was my life’s goal
Until the Master of Faith, Hope and Charity touched me and made me whole.

Think of the errors and barriers I set in my way
As I wandered in darkness by night and by day,
Till I opened my heart to the light without cease,
To the brightness of spirit, a gift of the Prince of Peace.

It was gloriously simple, He said that He wanted me
To follow Him, the path of joy expanding
Beyond understanding.
He is Wonderful, Counselor; the mighty God is He,
And as the Everlasting Father, my Prince of Peace loves and comforts me.

Think of the errors and barriers I set in my way
As I wandered in darkness by night and by day,
Till I opened my heart to the light without cease,
To the brightness of spirit, a gift of the Prince of Peace

When I feel His hope lifting me, I also lift my head,
And looking forward with faith energizing
To see the dawn rising,
I proclaim peace and thrill to fulfill what the Savior said,
Renouncing war and hatred by replacing my fear with His love instead.

Think of the errors and barriers I set in my way
As I wandered in darkness by night and by day,
Till I opened my heart to the light without cease,
To the brightness of spirit, a gift of the Prince of Peace

For when the errors and barriers have all gone away,
I will bask in the glory of luminous day,
Holding open my heart to the light without cease,
To the brightness of spirit, a gift of the Prince of Peace.
